That’s right folks. Introducing the AVX TX 4×4 , coming soon near you. The AVX TX is a futuristic design submitted by the Texas-based AVX Aircraft Company. The 4×4 which can change into a helicopter in less than a minute with a range of up to 250 miles is being drafted for the pentagon.

An army 4x4 which can change into a helicopter in less than a minute and is capable of flying for 250 miles could soon be used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The high mobility vehicle/helicopter can carry four fully-equipped soldiers and travel 250 miles by land and air on a single tank of fuel. The company says that any soldier should be able to operate it without the need for a pilots license.

The AVX TX has features resembling the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey with unfolding rotor blades for flight. It will be powered by a conventional engine for drive mode and can switch to flight mode within 60 seconds.

The company says the vehicle would be especially suitable for use in Iraq and Afghanistan where troops face constant danger from roadside bombs, or improvised explosive devices.

Once airborne the vehicle will be able at relatively high speeds of up to 140mph

AVX Aircraft Company President and Chief Engineer Troy Gaffey commented on the proposal submitted to the pentagon saying; “The ability of AVX Aircraft to respond to this proposal demonstrates the versatility of the AVX configuration. The design is very adaptable and can be configured for many different size and types of vehicles. The efficiency of the AVX design provides flexibility and performance to support both ground and aerial movement required for the TX design.”

The Pentagon office in charge of looking at futuristic technology has asked industry for ideas on whether it’s feasible to build a vehicle that can be driven — and flown.
