#4??? What??? 827 gallons per funeral. [citation needed].
Thats a LOT of fluid, there is nooooo way. I would believe 8 gallons.
This is bullshit. Possible around 8 gallons. But that stays in the body, and if it leaks, it stays in the casket. And if that leaks, it stays in the vault.
this stupid is TOTES WACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, that does seem unlikely, pconwell. Also, #1 is an exaggerated myth that can be easily be disproved with logic. Some living people pass out from shock, their blood quickly drains from their head. But not as quickly as if their head was detached and blood was leaking all over the place. There is no way someone would remain conscious after that much blood loss.
#8 is just a failed attempt at a truism. No matter how someone dies, you can attempt to squeeze that scenario into saying that their brain couldn’t get any oxygen, but it doesn’t really say anything.
@pconwell My first thoughts exactly man. They must have misplaced a decimal point I bet. Kinda seems like his mighta worked better in article form rather than a graphic too, most of it is text anyway. I do know one thing though: Having strippers at your funeral would be AWESOME!
Great infographic
#4 is complete B.S. Most funeral homes don’t even have that much fluid in stock! The typical embalming consists of 1 gallon of arterial fluid for every 1 pound of body weight. In addition, cavity fluid is also used for the chest cavity. NO WAY does 800 gallons of embalming fluid make it into ANY body!
Maybe they meant gallons per year, not per burial?
No one is really sure of the exact origin of ‘buy the farm’. Theories include the one included here, buying some ‘land’ i.e. a burial plot, or more compellingly – from the airforce – crashing into the ground belonging to someone’s farm, entitling the landowner to compensation.

HAHAHAHA 1 gal of water weighs 8+ lbs. How many pallbearers would it take to lift one casket add 1 dead guy…
I really dont understand why we still use emb. fluid …drain the fluids, throw some salt on it , freeze it till the funeral ..bury it
Though one of the rummors has it that it takes half as much embalming fluid as it did 50 yrs ago due to all the accumulated preservatives we have in our bodies at the time of death… sounds kinda fishy …but there u are …
then again …why do we even bury the dead …is beyond me.
The greenies are now telling us what to do after we die. Cremation is now wrong. I agree that some modern burial practices are a little hared to understand but that is history and custom for you. People hate the thought of their loved ones decaying in the ground. They like the idea that they will be there forever looking like they always did. Would you rather we kept the dead with us, in our own homes, like is practiced in some countries?
#12 Marilyn Monroe also died in a bathroom.
What a way to go. Even the dead are no longer allowed to rest in peace (RIP).
Its really amazing!!!
#13 is a bit of an exaggeration, too – if we’re just buried under dirt and left to decompose, we’ll STILL be releasing hydrocholoric acid (because our stomachs are full of it!) and CO2 and possibly SO2 into the earth.
@Bob: Actually, that’s true since “death” is usually defined as the point at which all electrical activity in the brain stops, which is usually due to lack of oxygen in the brain. Many causes of death such as disease, poisoning, or traumatic injury do not directly deprive the brain of oxygen, but either a) interferes with cellular respiration, b) damages cells in such a way that they can’t function properly, or c) overloads the body with byproducts of dead and damaged cells, which in turn do a) or b).
i’m a licensed funeral director in ny state. the absolute most fluid i’ve ever used is 4 gallons of water- with about 50 oz. of medium index(strength) fluid diluted into the mixture. that claim is absolutely insane.
All very interesting, but I’ve most often wondered about number 1. Perhaps its all the beheadings seen in movies and news stories from some countries that still do it. Ouch!
#15 was actually made illegal but they still do it.
#8 is nonsense as well. It would certainly be a common one (brought about in different ways), but there are plenty of other possible causes, like mechanical destruction of the brain, that would bring about death completely independent of whatever anoxia they might cause as a side effect.
Number 15 pisses me off. I’ve lived in china for over a year. I’ve been everywhere and I’ve seen a lot, but nothing like the bullshit I just read. Of course it’s easy to say that the chinese hire strippers for funerals so that they can “have more luck”, because the writer never went there! Goddamn you people piss me off.
Writer: hey boss, i’m almost finished with my assignment, but i just don’t know what to write for the last part.
Editor: the deadline’s up, you get me that article now or your out of a job!
Writer: shit man, i’ll just make up stuff about china. it’s on the other side of the world, no one will know if it’s true or not
Hmmm… so 1,4,8, and 14 (and probably 15) are all false, and 13 is misleading. Whoever made this is complete jackass
I always thought it would be nice to dump my body in the forest when I die.
I feel that after I die most of my organs should be donated for further scientific researches. I don’t know what kind of view does old people hold on this. I don’t even know what prominence this will have on the religious beliefs as connected with death.
There are many things that come in my mind and the first thing is, when I will die I will be in the air and will be able to see all my loved ones. But they won’t be able to feel or see me. Also, in case if my eyes are donated to someone, in the next birth I will be blind. Thus I have two views, in the first one I see myself as free soul and in the second one I see myslef having a blind reincarnation.
