A teenage in Anchorage, Alaska rode down an ice floe down the river in a daring stunt. He was taken to jail after police caught up with him later on.
“It was dumb, I know that,” said 18-year-old Michael Poland. “It was pretty stupid. But it was all in fun,” said the teenager who had taken a quarter mile trip down a river aboard an ice floe.
“Having to spend a night in jail over it was just ridiculous,” he added.
The 18-year-old, who did not have a criminal record, was jumping on ice along the Chena River with friends on Friday night when a 10-by-15 piece of ice broke off. Poland hopped on it and his friends tossed him a milk crate to sit on and a lid of a cooler to paddle the block of ice.
The river was filling with spring melt, but Poland said he was never in any danger.
“My buddies, they have boats at their house. They could have came and got me if I got hung up,” he said.
Unfortunately for him, multiple observers called 911.
He was brought to shore by firefighters, who then handed him to police who sent him to the Fairbanks Correctional Center. He has since been charged with disorderly conduct for creating a hazardous condition for the firefighters who rescued him.
