Wasps are one of nature’s most vicious, and cunning creatures. Nefarious for their ability to destroy entire nests of bees, the wasp is not known for playing fair.

Scientists observing wasps in New Zealand noticed that the common wasp airlifted ants competing for the same food by using its jaws to deposit them from great heights to a distant site before returning to their meal.

The ants would sometimes attempt to defend their food by rushing, biting and spraying the wasps with acid, but were typically docile and tolerated the wasp’s presence. The wasp too was generally passive, though it would sometimes pick up the offending ant and drop it several centimeters away in order to prevent it from getting to the food.
